Pyrgos Beach, also written Pirgos, lies on the northwestern side of Gavdos. The dramatic bay is suited to prepared visitors who value remoteness and accept a demanding approach.
Beach Setting & Facilities
Two sandy sections are separated by rocks below steep ground. There are no organised facilities, and dependable natural shade should not be assumed.
Plan a self-sufficient visit. Bring drinking water, food and sun protection, and take everything away with you. Do not expect toilets, showers, rental equipment or lifeguard cover to be available.
Things to Do at Pyrgos Beach, Gavdos
Enjoy the scale of the bay and take time to assess conditions before any swim. A scenic visit without entering the sea can still justify the effort.
How to Get There
Plan an established hiking route with current local advice or discuss a suitable boat approach. The descent needs particular care, and the return climb is part of the same outing.
Check the current ANENDYK ferry timetable and operating notices before planning connections.
Is It Suitable for Families?
This is a remote outing for well-prepared visitors, not a convenient choice for a casual day with toddlers. Access, heat and return logistics should decide whether it suits your group. Do not rely on the beach being quiet as a reason to overlook those requirements.
Where to Stay
Choose a Gavdos base around confirmed ferry plans, your walking ability and the services operating for your dates. Karave, Sarakiniko and Korfos offer different arrival and beach logistics. Remote island shores are easier to enjoy when accommodation, drinking water and local transfers are arranged before you set out.
Practical Tip
Leave extra time for the ascent and do not start a remote descent late in the day. Carry sufficient water and keep someone informed of your plan.
